Throughout the course of history educators have needed to use new technology as a way to further the education of their students in a simpler and yet more effective method. From the invention of the humble chalkboard, dry eraser board and to the titan that is the computer, technology has always had a place in the classroom of the future. Therefore, it is no wonder that new social networking technology would eventually find its way into the learning process.

I concur with the journal article that blogging supports teamwork between classmates and communication between students and teachers that is often absent in today’s overcrowded classrooms. I believe that with new teaching technology i.e., in the classroom, at home, and especially mobile technologies will give everyone an equal and/or better opportunity at achieving higher education and at succeeding at it if they chose to.

This article delves into the idea that blogs can extend class time and aid in continued student learning outside of the classroom setting. The article talks specifically about the struggles of science teachers when they are confronted with differing student needs. Blogs allow those teachers to provide a more thorough and individualized education experience by providing lecture notes, test reviews, and audio podcasts to supplement lectures.

I believe that using a blog as a supplemental educational tool provides students with continued learning even after the school bell rings. Even people without Internet connections at home can still find ways to take advantage of the educational technological advance. A student can access and download blog files from the community library or while in school computer labs or media centers, and even during tutorials. Our country is already behind the curve when it comes to education and any help that networking technology can provide is a welcome addition to student’s continuing struggle to succeed in a highly global competitive jungle.

Welcome to my amazing blog! I am a new student at Western Oregon University. I recently moved to Salem, Oregon from Arizona approximately nine months ago. Came from no rain to too much rain, however, I am truly enjoying the weather here in Salem. I am currently in the law enforcement field and I am confident that I will be able to integrate what I learn from this course/ program into my everyday activities and courses in law enforcement. The MS in Education and Information Technology may eventually persuade me to make a jump into the field of teaching as an occupation in the near future or when I leave law enforcement.
